I appreciate that Niantic is attempting to bring some interesting game play to non-Community Day weekends. Having engaging game play is what keeps players into the game. This Weather Week was interesting to say the least.
One of the biggest problems I have is that only a handful of the specific mons were out. I like seeing Wingull (I’m more a Pelipper fan, but I’ll take Wingull to get there) and seeing Ducklett was a nice change of pace. Croagunk (though not a water, but associated with water… and if you asked me without looking I would say is water) helped with the fighting I needed for the 151 Research. I saw a few more Skarmory and it seemed like Fletchling was out a lot and other of the minor flying Pokemon during windy. I was glad to see Wailmer finally get an appearance in the Timed Research. Seems like Wailmer is a forgotten Pokemon. Too many of the Pokemon I was hoping to see were missing in action. Where were wild Wailmer, Mudkip, Clamperl, Remoraid, Carvanha (would have helped with dark, which is a type that I have heard some still needed for the 151 Research), etc… I would have liked seeing them celebrated as well. Windy was dominated by Flying types and Spoink. Where were Ralts, Slowpoke, Gothita, and the like?
The obvious “elephant in the room” is the lack of Dragons in the wild. Dragons are allegedly attracted to and are boosted by windy weather. I saw 1 in the wild – Noibat (which if you asked me without looking, I would say not a Dragon, as it is not an obvious one like Dratini). If one Trainer in my party didn’t have Noibat in their Pokedex, that would have been missed! Yes, Rayquaza Raids were welcomed, however they felt like a placating bolt-on to Weather Week. Remember, Rayquaza was not announced as a part of Weather Week until just before the event started. I did my fair share since I know that seeing dragons otherwise would have been a major grind. I finished my 30 catches. However, I was under the impression that I would have seen more wild Dragons. I did not expect dime a dozen, but at least in the “uncommon” area and not the “very rare” it is.
Keep these kinds of ideas coming, Niantic. I enjoyed seeing various Pokemon celebrated in such a way. Just add some more Pokemon to the events for variety… and make sure if you advertise a certain type is out in force (Dragons), that they are, at least relative to normal.
