Welcome to Moose's Pokemon Go Blog!

My friends know me as Moose. I am a player from suburban Allentown, PA.

Posts are going to be my thoughts on various topics related to the game Pokemon Go. Some posts are going to be my ideas to make the game better/more accessible to those of us who do not live in urban or downtown areas. Some posts will praise the game for gameplay that makes sense that has already been incorporated. Some will try improve/tweak these ideas to make them more accessible. Some will just be my gameplay and other observations. I want to make the game better for everyone, but especially for those who don’t live, work, or play in urban/downtown areas.

Unless I find a great design or something else that is really cool, I do not see this site having any kind of fancy design. Info over design.

My 2024 New Year’s Resolutions Part 1

It’s been a while since I entered anything into this blog. The game has made a lot of changes… some good, some bad… but overall, I still enjoy the game. This year, I resolve to get back to publishing my thoughts more on this blog and share my ideas here. I do comment a lot…

July 2022 Lookahead… Some Hits, Some Misses

The July Content Update came out today. I was hoping to hear more about what was happening next month by now. I will only comment on things I can access. No need to comment about Go Fest in far off cities I won’t get to… The events seem promising. The Anniversary Event is usually something…

Deino Community Day: High Hopes, Lousy Execution

The June 2022 Community Day was highly anticipated. Considering that last year, we got Gible after a shiny release where it was frustratingly difficult to get throughout June 2020-May 2021. This was a T1 staple and was something that Trainers were going nuts for. Then in June 2021, we got our Community Day. Highly rated…

Shinies Matter (Especially During Major/Limited Time Events)

Recently, I read an article where executives at Niantic downplayed the lack of shinies saying that they believe that too many shinies would degrade the experience of Go Fest and that they value bringing the community back together. I call shenanigans. I see and talk to my community often and see them a lot. There…

Various Desired Changes #1 – Just Let Me GO

This will be a recurring series of changes I would like to see. Some will be long enough to make a full post, others will be a few blended. The first one is simple… just let me GO! While playing the game, there are times where I just want to get going. Be it having…

Ultra Unlock: Research Day gets an A-

Sunday June 12th’s Ultra Unlock: Research Day was a great event, based solely on my experience. Overall, I would like to see more things like this in the future, but with some small changes. The special research aspect was fun. I have access to a park that has a great number of Pokestops, so I…

Go Fest gets a C- at best!

I paid for the ticket. My expectations were for at least double digit shinies per day – 20 on day 1 with great rates and 10 on day 2 with good rates, great raids, good times with friends and my Fiancee, and the days being worth the ticket. In many ways, it wasn’t. For the…

Alolan Geodude Community Day… C- at best

Alolan Geodude Community Day was this past weekend. This Community Day will not get a high rating for reasons, but wasn’t all that bad. First, I have to discount the fact that it was blistering hot over this weekend here in the New Jersey. First time it’s been 90 degrees since last summer. I know…

Remote Raids should be Returned to what they were

The recent de-emphasis on Remote Raids has been an epic failure on Niantic’s part for those of us in rural areas and who cannot get out. There so many fronts on which Niantic’s recent moves have been terrible for all Trainers. For rural and semi-rural Trainers, this is was another punch to the gut. I…

Pink PUCKY

Just got this. I have been chasing ever since I knew Pucky could be shiny… I did get a traded one, but this is the first I have obtained on my own.

Air Adventures gets an A

This past week was Air Adventures in Pokemon Go. I really enjoyed this event and give it an A. Positive: Wednesday Night Raids almost felt like the old days. People were not live where I was, but at least 10+ people were in my raids during Wednesday Night Raids. I saw someone I did not…

Quality of Game Improvement – Start the Raid Now Button

Niantic has always been discussing Quality of Life Improvements and other beneficial changes for Pokemon GO. There have been some improvements to make the game more accessible overall. Guaranteed Daily Spawn, Research, and Gifts to send to friends, as well as Rocket Ballons and other similar features have leveled the playing field for more rural…

Sustainability Week Collection Challenge… a Failure on Multiple Fronts

I finished the Sustainability Week Collection Challenge right after Community Day on Saturday April 23. It took a lot more effort, questions to fellow Trainers, and other frustration to finish than was necessary. There were only 6 mons needed this time around, a nice reduction of the total needed from normal of 8 or 9.…

Stufful Community Day was OK

Stufful Community Day was yesterday. I was unimpressed. Yes, a brand new Pokemon is great. We’re all on even footing and any shinies are new shinies. I like getting new shinies. It also is a cuter Pokemon and attractive to the younger/family set (not that I care), though Bewear looks like a person in a…

Make Our Buddies More Valuable #3 – Give Souvenirs Value/Use

At Buddy Level 3, we get Souvenirs from our Buddies. These little trinkets are practically useless. I understand that the Lone Earring allows the Trainer’s avatar to wear earrings. That doesn’t do much for me and I have rarely seen any other fellow Trainers avatars with them on. Also, the Challenges to Level 48 include…

This Beginner was not in Paradise

Over Easter, we had the “Beginner’s Paradise” Day which was supposed to gently get people into PvP. For me, it was a reaffirmation of why I am not really into PvP, especially at the lowest levels. The game said that the Lightweight and Bantamweight Divisions (Great and Little Cup) are “beginner friendly”. I have to…

Go Fest 2021 Gets a B-

Go Fest 2021 ended on Sunday after a full weekend of Pokemon action. There were highlights, lowlights, and some in between. Please remember, this is based on my experience only, your individual experience may have been different. Very Excellent: I saw more Wailmer on Saturday than I have in a VERY long time. That alone…

Gyms – An Overlooked Part of the Game

Gyms seem to be a forgotten part of the game. Yes, the 50 coins for 8+ hours of defending (daily cap) is a nice bonus and I want to get them as I can. However, if I need coins, I will buy them normally. Admittedly, I have a hard time getting to gyms as none…

Why, July?

July 2021 seems to be heavily focused on Go Fest, but there are regular events that are missing that are a fun part of the game. This is doubled since there are Medals for some of these that cannot be brought anywhere near Platinum because of this. Giovanni is among the missing parts of the…

My Bidoof Week Review

Bidoof Week had its ups and downs. There are elements I would like to keep and elements that I would like to get rid of… Good: Bidoof Day on July 1. The complete take over for one day was fun. Seeing Bidoof everywhere, even in the raids was actually quite fun. I will admit that…

Please Do Not Nerf Remote Raiders

As previously mentioned, there are many changes that are related to the global situation that are being reviewed and decisions were made. Remote Raids were addressed very briefly. I did not see any real decisions. Remote Raids allow people who do not have near by gyms to raid with friends without having to go in…

My Take on Pokemon Go Situational Rollbacks

When the current world situation began, we all had to change a lot of our daily lives. There were many restrictions on movement, closures of many establishments, and a general prohibition on most social activities. In some areas, the situation is now much better and many restrictions have been rolled back. With this in mind,…

YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS

I thought that this was resolved a while back. Harken back to my post where I suggested reasonable minimums for various Pokemon. I guess somewhere this was missed. 10/11/7 on Giovanni’s Ho-Oh. 1*. This is the taste in my mouth I am left with until September when Giovanni returns. I would not be complaining as…
